Course on drawing and painting according to Tibetan traditions
This course offers you the opportunity to discover a number of pictorial techniques: the drawing work is done using a grid, which enables the chosen shape to be achieved without difficulty, the concentration necessary makes this activity a contemplative practice.
Traditionally the colours are prepared by the artists. We use acrylic paint to make things easier; nevertheless Dechen can teach those who are interested how to prepare paint.
Similarly, the support proposed is paper, even though the thangkas are painted on canvas. Anyone who has finished their drawing can work on a canvas and will receive instruction on how to do this.
The different subjects of iconography can be tackled according to individual aspirations, from the eight auspicious signs to the deities of the Buddhist pantheon. Whatever their convictions, each participant can progress at their own rhythm and level. These images, with their perfect symmetry and complex symbolism, stemming from ancestral Tibetan culture, provide the basis for teaching materials, meditation supports and devotion. And even ignoring any religious considerations, this sacred art opens a universal opportunity.
